Title: First Class items from the buffet..
Post by: devon_metro on May 21, 2009, 18:42:06
Just curious as to whether anybody has a definitive list of what can be consumed from the buffet for free? The FGW website is somewhat lacking in that department and upon previously asking I have often been given a blank expression and no answer to my question.

Thanks!

Drinks:

Tea
Coffee
Herbal Tea's
Fruit Juices
Water (Still or Sparking)
Combination of Fruit Juice and Sparking water if you ask nicely enough ;)

Food:

Fruit* (Apples, Pears, Orange's Bananas)
Biscuits (Shortbread, Double Chocolate Chip Cookies, Oatcake, Stem Ginger)
Crisps
Fruit Cake
Pastries
Fruseli Bars

* Not available at Weekends & Subject to availability

Unfortunately, nothing available on the shelves of the buffet is complimentary, it's all hidden in the kitchen... ;)

Hope that helps Devon_Metro ;) ;D

That's great, is all of this available after 1900?

As long as it's a HST with a Buffet, you can go anytime...! Even Weekends ;D Except fruit isn't available then >:(

Only problem is if it's one of those sets running around without a Buffet...! After 19:00 i'm not sure whats available... I've never waited in the queue long enough to find out...! :P :D

Unfortunately rather a lot of customer hosts when asked just say "tea and biscuits" but there's actually quite a respectable range of freebies on offer (as I discovered when I asked one very friendly customer host on a quiet train for a selection of complimentaries to go with my tea and she gave me a bag filled with a range of all the above!) The cashew/almond mix is particularly nice.

Interesting, I've always been told just drinks and biscuits previously at the buffet.

I know this is going to get me shot...! But sometimes the CH's may say this because it's the easiest things to get to...!

When I travel on XC and head for the shop, I am told "Just Drinks" Yet they always manage to find some Shortbread or Crisps if you ask them nicely...! ;D

When I travelled on XC First Class with no host, I went to the buffet, and after I had asked whether I could help myself ("Ah-no" she said!), she just loaded a bag with a tea, sandwich, bottle of mineral water and biscuits).

I preferred it with a host, as I had 2 fizzy drinks, 2 teas, spring rolls and biscuits throughout my journey! (much to my annoyance, I could have had crisps, but I had already has biscuits by then)

Last time I was on with XC, the RSM simply showed me the draw and said "help yourself"

So it was a hot chocolate, coke, mince pie and Burt's Crisps  :D
