Title: FGW and Safety
Post by: oilengineer on April 23, 2009, 17:48:53
As a regular Devon Rail Traveller, I've been, let's say UNimpressed with the amount of time that it's claimed FGW put Safety first.

However I've often stood at Newton Abbot to board the front of London Bound Trains in almost pitch darkness, as very few of the lampposts work, I know enough about Sodium Lights (orange ones) to know Poor Maintenance when I see it.

It was a surprise to find that on my last visit to Newton Abbot the lights hap been fixed.

How If FGW are so Safety concerned can it arise that so many lights are broken!

Surely Train Crew and Station Staff should report these faults as a matter of course.

There are a number of dodgy lights which descend parts of platform 2 into darkness under the station canopy. The heathfield ends of Newton Abbot are certainly neglected and could do with some TLC. Suprised the bay platform hasn't be converted to provide a bay platform of some kind!

I'd noticed that the lights at Newton Abbot aren't well maintained and have a look at the state of the lighting around the front of South Devon House.

Says something about the Station Manager for Newton Abbot, like does (S)He ever visit Newton Abbot station by Day, let alone by night
