Title: Ollie's turn, guess where..
Post by: Ollie on April 21, 2009, 22:28:11
Starting with a couple easy ones but extra point if you tell me where I was when I took the first one

Some might have obvious clues to indicate where they are taken.

I'm assuming it is Paddington.

Did you take the first one from one of the nearby tower blocks?

Wouldn't really class it as a tower block, but it's a building attached to Paddington Station..

The Hilton Hotel?

Is the 2nd one Olympia?  Does Motorail still exist????

Clearly, it was taken from the balcony of Mark Hopwood's penthouse office!  ;D

Slightly more seriously, I haven't a clue - but isn't there a lot of building work going on around there: were you wearing a hard hat?  ::)

It is indeed taken from The Hilton Hotel and not Mark's Penthouse office.
The 2nd picture is not Olympia, and no Motorail no longer runs, but signage is still about.

First phot I am guessing taken from the GW Hotel bit high up for what used to be the function room so must be one of the bed rooms, overlooking platform 2/3 which are under the main roof valley, in the distance the glass building stand on what was the Goods Shed.  The brick building on the left are the Paddington General Offices white wall on the building is one side of what is called the bomb gap caused in April 1941.

Second phot Platform 1a Paddington also know as the UPO (Up Parcels Office) or Griffin sidings, the ramp at the back brings you out on Bishops Bridge Road

Am I close  ???

Bit sad I know this but then I did work at Paddington in the 1980's for the station ODM

Yeah taken from one of the bedrooms in the Hilton,

Yes second one taken in Paddington's Car Park, down the end of platform 1, near to the entrance ramp from Bishops Bridge Road.
