Title: Rare Opportunity - an afternoon in Salisbury
Post by: grahame on April 10, 2009, 08:42:44
I'll be taking the 11:36 from Melksham today ... back at 17:37, after an afternoon in Salisbury.   A rare opportunity for this trip - on a normal Friday I would have to catch the 06:40 - to Salisbury at 07:34, return train at 18:41

I note:

10:15 Westbury to Swindon due 10:58
This train will be formed of 1 coach instead of 2.This is due to an earlier train fault.

Can't say that I'm too worried about this change - I recall crowded bank holiday trains of two coaches on the line in the summers of 2005 and 2006 - happy times although the clouds of the effective execution of the service where clearly visible and the "consultation" gone before we knew it had even happened. No - I'm not worried because this change (for today only) doesn't seem to have been advertised, and I'm sure a 153 will have more than enough seats.

Next year will be a different story  ;) ... we're campaigning for a better service via http://www.transwilts.org.uk/pledge.html and other sites, and there will be a choice of trains at 06:40, 09:28 and 12:28 down to Salisbury, with returns at 13:31, 16:24 and 18:41.    And we'll be having a ball - back to 2006 levels and rising, again, at compound 35% per annum!

About a dozen each way on the Chippenham to Trowbridge section - almost entirely long distance traffic that happened to have been routed that way.  In the morning, three people got on at Melksham and in the evening three got off.  Not sure if I should add those into the stats as it was my party!

Sad, but much as I would have expected with zero marketting for a uniquley timed pair of trains that no-one who have simply guessed were running.
