Title: New Loo
Post by: grahame on April 02, 2009, 17:58:34
Yesterday, 1st April, saw the arrival of a loo at Melksham station ...

... there's still no public telephone at the station, and the information point isn't working again. There's still a lack of trains ... and I suspect we may loose the loo again when engineering works have been completed.

At the third anniversary or First taking over, it's pretty depressing to see how few steps forward there have been, and how the train services to and from this town (population over 20,000) have been decimated. The timetable at the bus stop in the Market Square still shows train times to 18th May 2008, and we're taking bets as to whether or not it's still on display (at a bus stop where the majority of services are provided by First) a year after it has expired.

Thanks for posting this picture, grahame.

There does seem to be a fair amount of equipment turning up at Melksham - and when I 'inspected' the site, in company with Lee and Sion last weekend, there were also bags of fresh ballast in evidence.

Is this all just 'routine maintenance' - or does it involve some enhancements to the existing infrastucture?

I suspect it's the former - in lieu of restoring 'an appropriate service', sadly!  ;) :D ;D

With the plant parked in the yard it looks like a complete length of track being relayed.

Is there a engineering closure posted or are they doing it overnight?

There is no closure posted - but they could be doing it overday rather than overnight. Remember that after the morning train leaves the line at 07:24, there's no other passenger train scheduled onto the line until about 19:04.  If we're going to get something better before the end of the year  ;) it seems a good idea to dothe work, in the daylight, ahead of that.

Well we get one new station service (Loo) and one taken away (Infopoint not working)  ???

It is indeed a rubbish service for Melksham.

However, you are slightly better off now, as there is no loo at LOO.

The Loo's at Trowbridge are still advertised by a sign, but have been locked for security reasons... The loo's were a break in point for some armed burglers some time ago and they have been withdrawn ever since. They were also badly vandalised within the first fornight of them being opened!

Erm no, one of the ticket office staff was in a life threatening situation after a gang of muppets hid in the loos waiting to ransack the tills...

No - a very serious incident, I'm afraid.

Good news - Infopoint is working
Bad news - The loo has gone.

Funny or intersting Info point worked with no loo, then didn't when we had our new loo, loo gone and info point works  ??? ::)

why is this?

Because you can only have one in lieu of the other?
