Title: Updated NR business plans
Post by: paul7575 on March 31, 2009, 09:55:44
Network Rail have published their delivery plan for 2009-014, indicating how, when and where they are going to spend the CP4 settlement agreed with the ORR:

There are a also a full set of new up to date 'route plans' for all NR routes:

Does anyone else agree with me that these plans are one of the most bloated documents produced?

The amount of information could be synthesised down to a much smaller document. I wonder whether their size is deliberate to give the impression of lots of work planned and to be executed, when in fact there's not a lot happening.

Oh absolutely,  And of the meat that is there plenty of it is recycled and soem of it is not anything to do with NR (ie XC has increased teh number of seats on voyagers)

First I've heard of platform extensions at Twyford and Maidenhead. Has anyone got more details?

I didn't think this was a issue on the relief lines (possibly on the main lines but they aren't used much anyway).

Part of the business plan is to increase the number of seat at peak times, both Maidenhead and Twyford the current used HST fit just, add a carriage then the problems start. Shame the opportunity was not taken to extend Plat 1 at Maidenhead last year when it was rebuilt but knowing the byzantine way funding is done on the railways the extension is out of someone else pot the fact that now it will cost 20% more that if it was done last year is not taken into account by the bean counters but us engineer keep being told by them to improve efficiencies

I find some of the routes a bit strange.  "Reading to Penzance" gives the impression that if you left Penzance and stayed on the "main" line you would end up in Reading but this is not the case as the "main" line at Cogload Junction runs to Bristol and the Athelney line is the diverging route.
