Believe Revenue is under threat elsewhere!

yes, FGW want to cut revenue managers everywhere (manager grade but still frontline staff) to "save money", more like loose it!

You could always argue that the subsidy is more attractive than the revenue, which if received in too great a quantity, could have a negative effect on future subsidy deals.  However, from a purely front line perspective, we need more, not fewer RPOs, especially as Conductors/TMs are knocking themselves out to increase takings across the network.

Surely the bean counters can calculate a fairly good estimate for extra fares collected by revenue staff and balance that against the cost of employing teh staff and arrive at sensible staffing levels which maximise revenue.  The state of the ecomony or franchise finances doesn't come into that equation.

If they are currently employing too many revenue staff then they have been wasting money up to now.  If they are employing too few then they are loosing fares.

Putting a few on the exit at Filton more often would probably more than justify the staff costs if the recent post was anything to go by.

I would just love to know how much they raked in that morning.

You may well have a point about subsidy vs revenue.  It always struck me as odd that things like barriered stations are made franchise conditions when you would think that the TOCs would have enough incentive to do those things anyway
