Title: Parking Newbury to Theale
Post by: amiddl on March 04, 2009, 21:03:16
Was told in no uncertain fashion today when buying a car parking ticket at Theale (because the machine wasn't taking credit cards) that from the end of the month ticket offices will not be selling car par tickets on stations from Newbury to Theale. The suggestion was that I better have some change just in case the machine wasn't taking credit cards as there would be no other alternative to purchase a ticket. Its good to see the service level improving on the route!!!!!!

Rather odd, that?

Surely they ought to ensure the machine takes card transactions only, if anything, rather than the machine gets stuffed full of ready cash - just crying out to be ram-raided??

 ???

It normally does but was out of order. Having said that the machine at Newbury didn't take cards for about four days during January.

But you are right if everyone uses cash -could be well worth ram raiding.

Same at stations on the Cotswold line, either cash/card or ring-go for carparking from April, no further carparking tickets from ticket office after that. Actively discouraging carparking ticket sales at the moment to prepare passengers for the change at the end of the month.

I have recently begun to use Ring-Go parking and am rather peeved to note a small supplement is charged for the privilege. Does it really cost 30p to perform the transaction?

It's cheaper to park using RingGo at Chippenham than it is to use cash.

According to Ring-Go's website,

"This is totally dependant on where you park. Each car park has its own set of parking tariffs as well as rules and regulations which are normally clearly displayed on what we call 'tariff boards' (hopefully large signage!).

The RingGo service is designed to work out how much your parking will cost based on how long you want to park there. Sometimes you will find that using RingGo is cheaper than paying cash.

The RingGo signage will also clearly indicate if there is a convenience fee to use the service or not. Finally, for peace of mind you can opt to receive summary and reminder text messages which are 10p each."

Must admit that I don't park in stations, but I was charged the 30p in an NCP park in Glosta last week.

Also Taplow, notice in booking office car parking tickets no longer on sale from 1 April.

Why ???

Also APOCA allows mobile phone payments.

Nice little phrase on notice outlining how to do it.

"Users of this service will pay a convenience charge of 20p."

1984 is alive and well in Taplow.

This edit seems to have been rescinded. Certianly for Taplow see other post.
