One does london bound and one country bound. Nice for regualar travellers who can mentally switch off the one which does not apply to them.

(I'm a Phil fan, myself) Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Don't vote. :P Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: Super Guard on February 10, 2009, 21:31:42 At Exeter St Davids, Doris does Platforms 1,2,5,6 and Phil does 3/4. Up London is Doris, Down London is Phil - the same applies at Tiverton Parkway.
My pref is Doris, as I prefer the way she says London Paddington & Waterloo. Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: 6 OF 2 redundant adjunct of unimatrix 01 on February 10, 2009, 21:38:38 oh perverts
Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: inspector_blakey on February 10, 2009, 22:56:27 And the way she says "HWestburee" is dead sexy as well. Phil Sayer just shouts...
I'll get my coat. Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: G.Uard on February 11, 2009, 08:33:12 I'm not convinced that our local Doris is the same as the one on the You Tube clip. Are there any more Doris clones out there?
Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: inspector_blakey on February 11, 2009, 09:29:48 There are definitely at least three Dorises in the FGW area. Ex-Thames stations e.g. Oxford have a very posh lady doing the recorded announcements (although it has to be said that neither she, nor the departure screens are working about 50% of the time).
Ex Wessex trains and stations (along with the English announcements in Wales) are made by Doris no. 2, who sounds a bit younger and speaks very clearly but always sounds to me as if she has a vaguely sarcastic edge to her voice! Doris no 3 is the one at some stations that were run by the "old" FGW before 2006, e.g. Bath, Bristol, Reading (although in some places she does a double act with digital Dave!) Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: devonian on February 11, 2009, 17:11:46 Phil sounds far more realistic than Dorris. Also, someone needs to remind DOrris that there are only 2 'e's in Leeds and it is not Leeeeeeeeeeeds.

Yeah Doris no 2 I DO NOT like at all... sounds so so false. I know what you mean devonian about Doris#1 saying Leeeeeeeeeeeds. OK this is getting a bit weird now ;D Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: bemmy on February 11, 2009, 21:16:47 Wessex Doris says "BedMINsta" instead of BEDminster, or indeed Bemmy ;D.
Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on February 11, 2009, 21:28:51 Probably about a month ago now, our excellent 'live' platform announcer at Bristol Temple Meads was heard to say, quite clearly, "The next service from platform 4 will be the 1754 to Taunton, calling at Bemmy, Parson Street, Nailsea & Backwell, Yatton, ..."
He made it all sound so natural, I'm sure many of the non-locals probably wouldn't even have noticed - but we regular commuters did - and exchanged grins! ;D Title: Re: Announcements POLL: Who is better, Phil Sayer or Digital Doris?
