Title: Snow disrupts play, but could it have been avoided? Post by: devon_metro on February 07, 2009, 22:50:57 From FGW:
Tiverton Parkway Road Transport Saturday 07 February Saturday 07 February 2009 Update: 2 Due to poor road conditions on the station access roads, the rail replacement coaches, planned for this evening from 20:08, will start at Exeter St Davids instead of Tiverton Parkway. Customers are advised to change at Exeter St Davids for onward travel for stations to Plymouth and Penzance. The scene that greeted me at Tiverton at 17:17 earlier: (http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l50/liamy_2006/swr/tvpsnow.jpg) Is it any wonder that this has happened? The car park was in a state and clearly nothing had been organised to ensure that the platforms/car park were cleared of snow and ice. It was quite treacherous. I appreciate that there were circumstances that meant the platform could not be cleared by staff at the station (and an effort was made later in the day by a determined staff member) although could FGW not have hired in some professionals to do the job properly? The car park tomorrow will be used by 100s of coaches which could cause a few problems. Exeter St Davids and Taunton had been completely cleared of snow, so why was Tiverton Parkway left with 95% of the platform space covered in frozen snow??
