Title: South West Trains stop at Dawlish Warren
Post by: Zoe on January 08, 2009, 17:12:56
What's the point of this?  I can't see many people getting on or off and all it appears to do is add time to the journey.

In some cases, stopping at Dawlish Warren allows other services to overtake on the passing loops.

Travel on them in summer then! I'd object to the removal of these services as I have regularly got set from there.

Can't wait to see what Dft come up with when SWT cease their services to Plymouth and Paignton from December

Please, don't remind me  :'(

Many fgw services are already overcrowded. Dft will have many questions to answer for unless they find extra stock for fgw/swt.

Solution: loco hauled to replace a few FGW 158 diagrams.

Give those 158s to SWT.

And Bob's your Uncle.

No, i'd say that 158s are unsuitable for the work they do around Southampton, so replace those with something more suited to the job.

FGW passengers deserve every 158 they can get.

I go birdwatching at Dawlish Warren and anything that stops there suits me more than having to go up to Exeter and come back, similarly Dawlish on the way home - I use SWT to get to Newton Abbott to get home.

As of December 2009 there will be no South West Trains services west of Exeter...

FGW are toying with the idea of using loco+stock to replace the SWT diagrams west of Exeter, this could work as most of the work is mainline work.

Or just do what Vacman is saying, the timings I have heard would work.

ok just to clear up my earlyer mess up i belive fgw along with a few other opperators are trying to get hold of some dvt's as to where they would be used i have no idea but it makes sence to use one loco and a dvt rather that the cost of two locos or one and doing a run around at end destinations

DBS did intend to replace one of the class 67s on the Taunton - Cardiff diagram with a DVT.

as far as i can see and this is relying on good old wickipedia im afraid there are 26 class 82 dvt's in storage, mixture of mk3 and 4, what locos these are compatible with how many are still in working order wold be an interesting thing to know

Minor modifications would be needed to allow the DVT to work with the 67, however i'm not sure if they will work with the Mk2 coaches.

thats a good point, what about a 47

More a case of the Mk2s not being throughwired, so whatever stock used, would need a rewire of the coaches, unless some "Blue Star" Mk2s are used. (as used for the Bristol - Minehead)

DVTs use the train lighting circuits.  They worked on the WCML on Mk2s to Brum for years.
