Title: Devon CDR fare rises
Post by: devon_metro on January 03, 2009, 14:35:54
It seems FGW have cottoned onto the popularity of the cheap fares, so they have been increased for the first time since FGW got the franchise  :(

To be fair, FGW cut CDRs across Devon & Cornwall in June 2006 and (apart from a couple of exceptions)have not increased them since until now.

Even with the increase, a lot of these fares are cheaper now than they were up to ten years ago (I'm thinking Barnstaple - Exeter in particular - ^7.50 now, was over ^10 prior to June 06)

Yeah, I agree - anywhere in Devon & Cornwall for under ^20 adults/ ^10 children has got to be good!

The day rangers aren't going up either - are they!?

Don't think so, I worked out that Devon fares have gone up 8%

Rangers I've bought recently are the same price.

I bought a ticket for St Ives to Exmouth today for ^12 (rail carded) but you have me wondering....Cornwall day rangers are ^8 despite what any rail pricing site says and they can be rail carded, how much is a Devon day ranger ?....websites show it as ^10...the Cornwall day ranger was reduced in price (I assume) to make the 'Ride Cornwall' tickets more attractive (^12 to ^10) as they can't be rail carded as they can be used on buses and there is no 'bus card' for discounts.

Cornwall day ranger ^8 unlimited (off peak) rail travel (can be rail carded)
Ride Cornwall ^10 unlimited (off peak) rail & bus travel (any operator) (no rail card)

Cornwall County Council have 'thing' about public transport and are now subsidising the buses to offer a flat 50p fare on sundays to as far as the driver can issue you a ticket.

So.....what I really wanted to know is how much is a Devon Day Ranger ?
Do you have a 'Ride Devon' ticket or is it just Plusbus ?
