Title: Don't miss chance to create new transport hub in Bristol, says Green Party Post by: Chris from Nailsea on November 01, 2008, 22:20:48 Quote A plot by Temple Meads station earmarked for development would be perfect for a transport interchange, say campaigners. Green Party activists believe the land, known as Plot 6, should be used to create a transport hub bringing together Bristol's rail, bus, taxi and coach services, and even trams. They say the Station Approach at Temple Meads is too small and cramped for a proper interchange ^ and building offices and homes on the alternative site would throw away an opportunity to improve the city's public transport. After all, the station modernisation plans include a new ticket hall/waiting area/information/toilets/retail/refreshments in the 'Digby Wyatt' shed. Why not let onward travellers get the advantages of it by bringing buses and coaches to the door, giving direct access to and from the whole city instead of the exposed bus shelters and tortuous multi-legged journeys we have now?
The petition is at http://epetitions.bristol.gov.uk/view/templemeadshub (http://epetitions.bristol.gov.uk/view/templemeadshub) There's more on the Green Party website at http://www.bristolgreenparty.org.uk/hottopics/0810templemeads.htm (http://www.bristolgreenparty.org.uk/hottopics/0810templemeads.htm) The Area Development Plan for Temple Meads and the developer's brief for Plot 6 aren't being drafted by the council - SWRDA are doing it instead. Odd, especially considering they're joint landowners with Network Rail. The current plans for both can be found at http://www.plot6.co.uk (http://www.plot6.co.uk), though they've been shielded from the public by keeping them out of search engines' databases. As a regular commuter through BTM, I'm very interested in your proposals - I'll certainly look up that petition! I'm not quite sure what SWRDA are up to, either: they seem to spend vast amounts of money, without actually producing anything concrete (if you'll pardon the expression)? Best wishes, Chris ;) :D ;D Title: Re: Don't miss chance to create new transport hub in Bristol, says Green Party Post by: Graz on November 06, 2008, 20:30:22 I also go through Bristol TM quite often and feel the current bus system is inadequate. It seems like a great idea in my view. Welcome to the forums, too :)
