25 automatic gates at Leeds City station cost  ^1.6 million to install.  With nothing like that amount of gates necessary to control 2 of FGW's most fare-dodger friendly stations (Gloucester and Cheltenham), it is tempting to ponder on how much it would cost to gate these 2 black-spots and on just how long it would be before the investment was returned.  If only Filton Abbey Wood could be included in the scheme. ;D

the more gates the better.

I read in Rail magazine that London Overground have slashed fare dodging by gating 8 stations.

Hasn't Filton got two open entrances asking to be vandalised ;)

Now, the question which immediately occurs to me is, which was put there first: the painted white line cycle path markings - or the double railings blocking the path with a 'no cycling' sign??

The white lines were there first. I use the station regularly and I distinctly remember the railings being installed.

I must admit, I had rather assumed that - if only because the alternative sequence of events would have been just too bizarre?

However, it does perhaps show how the interaction between pedestrians and cyclists (on off road routes) is fraught with difficulty, when it's just not clear who actually has the 'right of way'?  Perhaps a clear marking of the cycle lane, up to those railings, with a sign there announcing the end of that cycle lane, would be a bit easier to understand?
