Title: Smoking Ban - July 1st 2007 Post by: Lee on June 22, 2007, 16:40:21 A literal "Smoke and Mirrors" post for you ::)
I was at Portsmouth & Southsea station last night , enjoying what are likely to be some of my final "legal" puffs before the ban on smoking at stations comes into force on July 1st. Whats the forum's view on this? whistleblower - Are the FGW staff expecting problems enforcing this? By the way , I caught the 1827 Portsmouth - Cardiff service , and it was actually a Class 158 unit! See the numerous posts on this forum by yours truly regarding occasions when this was not the case..... Title: Re: Smoking Ban - July 1st 2007 Post by: grahame on June 23, 2007, 04:55:51 I don't think "the forum" as a whole should take an official view - it's a matter which in the realm of trains, appropriate service and usage isn't likely to make any sort of make-or-break difference, especially as the new law also applies to bus stations and buses, and even to private cars if I wish to offer my customers a lift as I read it.
I did comment on some aspects personally here (http://www.wellho.net/mouth/1170_Smoking-or-no-The-law-insists-we-spell-out-the-obvious.html) and here (http://www.wellho.net/mouth/868_Smoking-or-no.html) which will give you a flavour of my own view. One of the battles I fought hardest was to get my son to give up smoking. One of the biggest pointers that I was able to give him to push the case was that his grandfather - a lovely man - passed away messily and many years too early from the effects of smoking. I wasnt suggesting that we should all join together against (or for) the ban......
