"South West railway branch lines have been enjoying a resurgence in popularity as commuters look for cheaper and less stressful ways of travelling."

Good news, and for once positively reported. Though it failed to mention the additional two services on the Barnie line from December.

Though it failed to mention the additional two services on the Barnie line from December.

That's because they haven't been officially announced yet.

I would be less than completely surprised if they get formally confirmed on October 22nd... ;)

Bit odd really since they were announced in the Customer Panel Minutes which are on the FGW website!

A certain member of staff in the video has been off for the best part of 4 weeks on Annual leave/rest days, so that video was certainly filmed a while ago...  ;)

Fair point, John: from the minutes of the meeting held in Plymouth on 9 July 2008, at http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Documents/Custom/Customer%20panel/West%20CP%20meeting%20minutes%2009.07.08%20-%20WEBSITE.doc for example:

"Two additional services in December to provide a basic hourly pattern: funding now confirmed by Devon County Council"

 :D

Hmm. I used the word 'announced' deliberately.  ::)

As I understand it, there are plans^ afoot to make a big song and dance about the new timetable, somewhere closer to the date. A paragraph buried deep in some obscure minutes ain't what I'd call an announcement.

(If anyone cares, I knew about the two extra trains last November, and have been in possession of the relevant bits of the December timetable since April 12th. And no, I'm not going them pass it on to anyone else!)

^ - whether anything comes of those plans is anyone's guess, however...

... and that's a fair point too, TerminalJunkie!  ;)

Of course, we'd expect that FGW would try to keep this possible development low key, until they are ready to 'announce' it publicly - with a suitably breathtaking amount of spin, obviously!

 ;) :D ;D
