Quote Charity 'Open Day' - Sunday 12th September 2010 Open Day enquiries: richard.popple@motorail.co.uk We will be holding an Open Day this year on Sunday 12th September. However, we have decided to change things slightly this time around. Firstly, we will have just one day rather than the two and secondly we will not be operating a train trip inside the depot. Instead we will be running a bus trip around the internal depot for those who wish to have a good look at our site and its stock. We hope to be able to open up the storage lines to enable better photo opportunities and we should be able to display more stock than usual. The entry fee will be reduced to ^10 per person and ^5 for children under 15. Entry fees will be pay on the day only. Car parking is free. Gates will open at 10am and close at 5pm. The usual refreshments will be available and railway memorabilia stalls are all invited to attend as usual. Unfortunately we will not be running a shuttle bus from the train stations this time around. The event organiser this year is Richard Popple, he declared on his 50th birthday that he would raise ^50K for charity in one year. We have agreed that if he takes on the organisation of this event then he can donate the cash to his chosen charities. Richard is no stranger to Long Marston, he is the Site Manager here! Title: Re: Long Marston depot charity open days Post by: inspector_blakey on June 22, 2010, 15:06:50 Last time I was in Long Marston depot (legitimately, I hasten to add) there was so much stock that the "loop" line round the whole site was largely parked up with stored vehicles as well as the usual places like the exchange sidings. I wonder if that's why they're not able to offer any trips around the depot this year. Shame, I had a thoroughly enjoyable day a couple of years ago working the DMU shuttles with some of my colleagues from the big bad world of railway preservation.
