Reading DMUD Edit: re 5... could have made an effort to photoshop out the third rail in the bay road ;) 3 out of 6 right. All pictures are of genuine places, and not computer art based on a place. If I had wanted it to be harder, I could have simply cropped it to show just the top right quarter. Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: swlines on August 17, 2008, 17:33:27 Top right would have been just as easy - the bridge is quite easy to spot for Fareham. ;)
Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: devon_metro on August 17, 2008, 17:33:33 1. deffo isn't WSB which doesn't have destination boards of that kind. Salisbury perhaps?

Thank you. ;D Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: grahame on August 17, 2008, 17:37:19 1. deffo isn't WSB which doesn't have destination boards of that kind. Well, I do have a rough idea but I need to check. Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: swlines on August 17, 2008, 17:54:42 Is 2 Norchard? (he says after browsing graham's photo index)

(he says after browsing graham's photo index) Goodness - my "autoindexer" is working quickly today! - yes - you have all 6 now. 1. Salisbury 2. Norchard (that's on the Forest of Dean railway, about 15 miles from Severn Tunnel Junction) 3. Chippenham 4. Westbury 5. Fareham 6. (he says after browsing graham's photo index) Sorry, but I thought the rules were we tried to guess all 6, and "no partial guesses"? I can't see how someone who is (a) bending the rules and (b) has already been shown up by someone else he asked for the answer to be a cheat can possibly get away with not being disqualified. I'll take your word for the siding's name! Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: grahame on August 17, 2008, 18:37:15 Is 2 Norchard? Yes, but I felt we had established (beyond reasonable doubt) the other five ... once I got to saying "5 out of 6" and both competitiors were saying they were very much guessing at Meldon Quarry ... Had there been a prize on offer we might have had tighter rules ... and there's probably a good case with competitons like this to say "give everyone else a chance" in some way but, hey, this is the lighter side ;D Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: Chris from Nailsea on August 18, 2008, 00:28:37 To be honest, Phil, I was fairly sure straight away that 3 was Chippenham - but I hadn't a clue about any of the others, so I was rather entertained by the following discussion as to possibilities!
Chris ;) Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: swlines on August 18, 2008, 01:41:43 I can't see how someone who is (a) bending the rules and (b) has already been shown up by someone else he asked for the answer to be a cheat can possibly get away with not being disqualified. Like Graham said, if we were playing for prizes then it would matter a bit more. Also, where did I specifically ask someone for an answer? I simply borrowed one that might make sense. That's the wonder of forums. Besides, a bit of research into a subject is required to know where somewhere is in the first place. Research being the definition that you need to look into it more - or that you've actually been there before. I'm in broad agreement with you, Tom - yet at the same time I have a slight disquiet that the thread ran so quickly - that you (and one or two others) are so knowledgable, and at times so picky, that you're rather daunting and can put other people off even trying their hands. Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: swlines on August 18, 2008, 05:14:13 Make them a bit harder or ban me from posting in here then ;)
Title: Re: 6 pictures of diesel multiple units - but where Post by: grahame on August 18, 2008, 05:35:11 Make them a bit harder or ban me from posting in here then ;) There is probably a lot to be said for running some competitions where previous winners are asked not to post - I think they do something similar in horse racing.
