Title: Butlins express?
Post by: r james on June 10, 2008, 20:43:12
Does anyone know if the 'Butlins express' train service still runs?

Or if there are any plans to reintroduce it?

No - it's not running.

I heard rumours of attempts to run it but these didn't come to fruition for this year.

Any idea why it was not run this year?

Maybe it will appear over he school holidays when Butlins is most busy?

The operator Victa Westlink was taken over by Stobart and promptly closed down. Butlins and the WSR have not been successful in finding an alternative operator able and willing to provide the service for 2008. I don't think the idea is dead for ever, but suspect any future operation will have to cater for passengers wanting to travel to Minehead or the WSR for the day if it is to be commercially viable. (Last year's service was only useful for holidaymakers travelling to and from Minehead, not daytrippers.)
