Interesting applications! What is the one that looks like a train?

Can't get mine up, but I have Leopard, and a picture of the Earth from space (one of the ones in the System Preferences).

I have a dual monitor setup, one screen in landscape the other in portrait mode:

Apple+Shift+3 produces a png on the desktop, Btline.

The one that looks like a train is RailPlanner.

Vista. And downright copy of OSX Lepoard!

Not widgets, but GADGETS!

And there has been an unprecedented number of people "downdating" to XP!

I have a dual monitor setup, one screen in landscape the other in portrait mode:

Slight change now:

The left-hand screen is a 19" at 1280x1024, the one on the right is a 28" at 1900x1200.

How I ever coped with that tiny 17" monitor...

I don't know why so many people have cluttered desktops:

You want to download TweakUI (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx), Zoe mate - you can remove that annoying recycle bin you've got cluttering the place up then...

Brilliant, Phil!  Thanks for that - it has indeed been annoying me for ever!! ;D

Then right-click on the Taskbar, select 'Toolbars' and untick 'Language Bar': that'll get rid of the 'EN' icon.

go into safe mode and that will be very basic  :P

just not with vista, its like opening up a rift into the medusa cascade.... the stars start to disapear!! KINDA SCARY!

Title: Re: Desktops
Post by: Btline on January 12, 2009, 21:25:33
Why not remove the start button while you're at it! ;)

Title: Re: Desktops
Post by: Phil on January 13, 2009, 08:21:49
It's actually not all that difficult to remove the start button.

Here's my PC desktop from a while ago - intentionally "skinned" to look and act like a Mac (don't ask why - it was as a result of a bet with a mate!)

If anyone's daft enough to want to try this at home,

    * StyleXP or WindowBlinds (skins the Graphical User Interface of your operating system) http://www.tgtsoft.com/prod_sxp.php
    * ObjectBar (the white Finder bar on the top of Macs; has File, Edit, View, etc. on it.) http://www.stardock.com/products/objectbar/
    * ObjectDock (The dock on the bottom of a Mac that contains icons and shortcuts to programs, not shown in the example above but as a matter of fact I still use this one to this day) http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/

Thanks Phil, I did use TweakUI back in 1998 on Windows 95 but did not know there was a version for Windows XP.

Just get a mac! ;)

I switched and would never swich back....

Ahhh - no pestering messages about updates to be installed, no shields which say "your computer may be at risk", no paperclips, cats, dogs etc which ask you "if you are writing a letter" (which is really encouraging since in proper English it should be "whether you are writing a letter"!).

And best of all - NO VISTA! ;D

I can't justify spending ^1500 on a laptop!!!!

Even if I had a mac I'd still need windows! Nothing wrong with vista for me. It's safe and does the job.

You don't need to spend ^1500!

Besides, that amount would still be worth it. Faster, safer, easier to use......

And as relex said - Vista is a (poor) clone of Mac OSX. If you like Vista, you'll LOVE Mac!

PS: You can run Windows apps on a Mac with parallels or bootcamp.

its not easy but you cn even run osx on a windows machine.... like i said not easy but if you are good with computers and have the time to play around it can be done, that way best of both worlds, the editing magnificence of a mac along with the versatility of a pc... just chose which os you want to use when you boot up not ideal but it works

long and short if you have money buy a mac if you have a decent pc get vista if you have an old pc and no money stick with xp!
