Lampo, was a mixed breed puppy with a German Shepherd appearance, became famous in the 1950s in Italy for his extraordinary ability to travel alone on trains and always return to his home.

There's a complete book I read - from the library, borrowed several times in my youth - on this.  I'm award of some other dog stories with rail memorials or connections - Ruswarp and Hachiko ...
