Title: what would you do if your last train was cancelled?
Post by: infoman on October 01, 2024, 20:02:06
Talksport had a great deal of fun after finding out the last train to Southampton after the Bournemouth game had been cancelled on Monday 30 September
Not sure how many away fans attended, will confirm if I can find out
The distance is 29 miles.

So what would you do?

Ask some one to come and pick you up
Get a taxi and try to claim the money back
Stay the night?
Stay at the station, although Pokesdown is nearer to the football ground (and I think its not locked up at night) than Bournemouth station
Wait patiently for the first morning service back home?

The operator has to get you home. So they pay for a taxi.
Make contact through social media then the station help point.

This has happened to me before. At a manned station (Guildford) the staff arranged a taxi to take me all the way to my front door.

Though on another occasion at an unmanned station, the last train was showing as delayed and still on the screen for over an hour after it should have left and I had no confidence that it would run so I phoned the local cab company. I didn't claim the fare back but I later discovered the train was indeed cancelled.

So what would you do?

Done pretty much most of those depending on circumstances.  Also dropped back to the late(r) bus, and decided not to go to my planned destination at all.   Other questions such as "am I alone" and "am I sober" effect decisions.

This might make a good poll ... very interesting to know what others have done.

Ironically this applies closer to home tonight.

The final Swindon to Westbury service has been cancelled after the incoming train failed at Chippenham.

There were 1,300 Saints fans at the game, some would live nearer to Bournemouth,

by the same token there would have some Bournemuth followers

living nearer to Southampton
