Title: Double steam, Norton Fitzwarren, 20th July 2024 Post by: JayMac on July 20, 2024, 19:20:00 Two railtours through Somerset today. First was a service from Bedford to Kingswear hauled by LNER Class A4 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley. Followed soon after by a service from London Paddington to Minehead hauled by LMS Stanier Class 5 ('Black Five') 44871. This second train actually started from Slough due to the locomotive being late off the depot at Southall.
I videod both from the footbridge at Norton Fitzwarren. Sir Nigel Gresley gave us a long whistle. Apologies for the babbling kiddies in the videos! The service to Kingswear was hauled to Taunton by top and tailed Class 47s. Leading the way, in BR ScotRail livery was 47712 'Lady Diana Spencer'. However, I did catch Sir Nigel on the approach to Exeter St David's on its return journey from Kingswear to Bedford.
