Title: Map reveals where new rail routes could be introduced across the UK Post by: grahame on June 16, 2024, 07:26:41 From The Metro (https://metro.co.uk/2024/06/15/map-shows-new-uk-rail-routes-opened-21030840/)
Quote More frequent and new rail services could be on the way, as independent operators roll out plans to launch extra trains around the country. Stirling in Scotland and Carmarthen in Wales could be some of the first places to have direct links to London after proposals from prospective open-access company Grand Union Trains (GUT). It is one of several operators to give rail travel a boost and offer low fares on already expensive routes. They are backed by the UK government, which says the rise of open access gives customers more choice and increases passenger numbers. Interesting comments about "The Government" and from Government Ministers. Could we see a move to Open Access providing many / most commercially viable services in the future, with government contracts offering a parliamentary or even nothing on some lines, and also providing services on secondary flows where there's no financial profit to be made by mass transit? Title: Re: Map reveals where new rail routes could be introduced across the UK Post by: Ralph Ayres on June 16, 2024, 12:10:31 Is this just Metro picking up on an old press release? It seems odd part way through the election campaign for "The Government" to be making announcements of this kind, and nothing on the map is remotely new. It's even got Go-op's most recent pipe dream...
