Prince William is travelling to Cardiff for an event to celebrate the Welsh seaweed industry, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

A photograph was shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales' official social media account showing Prince William sitting on a Great Western Railway train staring out the window as he travelled to the charity event.

It was posted along with the caption: "En route to Cardiff today to celebrate seaweed innovation!"

William is most likely headed to Cardiff Metropolitan University where The Earthshot Prize and the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales are hosting an event to celebrate the Welsh seaweed industry.

A second post said: "Seaweed is one of the most abundant resources on the planet, and it is a potential solution to some of the biggest environmental problems felt across the World."
William is attending an event highlighting global businesses using seaweed across several industries.

The Earthshot Prize is an "ambitious global environmental prize which aims to discover and help scale the world's most innovative climate and environmental solutions to protect and restore our planet," according to their website.

Last year, Prince William travelled to Singapore in November to attend the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards where heleft a business owner in tears.

The Prince of Wales wore a tie made from plastic bottles created by the Italian brand Wilmok during a ceremony.

The founder of the company posted on social media that he was “literally in tears” from the gesture.

Prince William also issued a rallying call during an important speech on climate change at the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards.

William said: "The last year has been one of great change and even greater challenge.

"A year in which the effects of the climate crisis have become too visible to be ignored.

"And a year that has left so many feeling defeated, their hope dwindling."

The royal added: "However, as we have seen tonight, hope does remain. The light of optimism is burning bright in our Earthshot finalists."

The Prince of Wales also hailed Singapore as a fantastic host for his awards.

He said: "We express our deepest gratitude to Singapore for hosting our third Earthshot Prize ceremony.

"Few places demonstrate so well how the natural and urban worlds can co-exist. A great city leveraging technology and innovation to help repair and regenerate our planet."

You never know who you might see in 1st class.....

I'd have happily sat and discussed republicanism and Oliver Cromwell with him. :P

A member of staff at Reading Train Station has since confirmed that Prince William did pass through the station.

"We knew he was coming before he got here," they said. "His entourage comes before him and we're told to open the barriers."

I suppose he can be trusted to have bought the right ticket ...
