Title: Windows - to the outside world and to information
Post by: grahame on May 13, 2024, 08:34:49
From Railway Gazette (https://www.railwaygazette.com/technology-data-and-business/train-windows-become-information-screens/66472.article)

Quote
SOUTH KOREA: An eight-car trainset operating on Seoul Great Train Express Line A has been equipped with 55 inch Transparent OLED displays which act as both windows and information screens.

The 16 screens supplied by LG Display show varied content including route maps, while also functioning like conventional glass to provide a sense of open space and increased safety by enabling passengers to check outside in emergency situations.

Installation across the GTX fleet of Hyundai Rotem trainsets is now planned

I have been impressed across Europe by information screens displaying real time data about connections as trains approach intermediate stations, and showing the train's progress at other times.   Our local trains have somewhat improved over the years, but we could really do with rather more.    The news item (above) is vague on whether the screens will be interactive / what they will show - the scope and concept is interesting and could be very useful

Several types of new stock introduced in the UK over recent years has the same style of information displayed.  Hopefully the stock procured under Operation Churchward to replace GWR’s 150/158/165/166/255 fleets will have similar displays.
