Title: Saturdays: Rochdale / Manchester onto the Settle and Carlisle
Post by: Mark A on April 29, 2024, 12:27:37
Was it Covid that killed a similar service? Anyway, here's a new one, good to see as would be daft for services very much aimed at the leisure market to be gone for good. This runs on Saturdays from June 8th to ???.

Definitely good to see. A somewhat circuitous start from Rochdale heading away from the S&C, which I assume is at least partly for operational reasons.  Still slightly quicker from the Rochdale area than going via Leeds or Bradford, and you should get a seat!  Once past Manchester/Salford there's no question that it's quicker and more convenient so long as the times suit; it does make for quite a long day with no real option to head home early if the weather turns.

The key bit I seem to recall is Clitheroe to Hellifield, which currently has no passenger service but keeps being promised one.  Two trains each way a week won't really make much difference or conclusively show demand for an all-week service but at least gives some publicity and confirms the track is up to passenger-carrying standard.

Parallel to Swindon to Oxford this autumn?
