Title: Reservation for the train, but not for a seat on it. Post by: grahame on April 01, 2024, 14:20:01 This should be interesting 5 hours on a train - I bought my reservation but it does not include a seat. The train manager tells me that's because the train is fully booked and "stand for 5 hours" is the theory. I'm sure that in practise it won't be full all the way - seated AT PRESENT but this could be fun. Train Manager confirms I can move around.
Oh "Wider picture Overseas" - not GWR ;D Title: Re: Reservation for the train, but not for a seat on it. Post by: Bob_Blakey on April 02, 2024, 12:41:53 ...not GWR... But it could have been one of the SWR services on the WoE line! Title: Re: Reservation for the train, but not for a seat on it. I suspect that they allow a certain "overspill" number for reservations that don't get taken up. I asked the chap on the platform who had "can I help you" on his tabard in English and he told me I might have to stay for 5 hours! Title: Re: Reservation for the train, but not for a seat on it. Post by: Phantom on April 04, 2024, 11:07:56 The reason I asked, it reminded me when I was on a train from Paddington back to Temple Meads, it was overcrowded and full and standing from London
So I stood with a friend in a vestibule between two first class carriages, when the train Manager came through we were asked to move as we didn't have a first class ticket Apparently our ticket didn't guarantee a seat, just the ability to travel on that service This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
