Which (choose up to three) of their top ten would you recommend?

Swindon.  (There is a lot of gardening to catch up on!)

I will be on a Danube cruise - Vienna to Budapest

Weardale for the mineral railways and Dovedale.

My spring break plan is Orkney.

I shall stay at home. I am not averse to travel but do whenever possible avoid Easter and other busy times.
Most events and destinations that could be enjoyed at Easter may be better visited at a less busy time.
I tend to minimise use of GWR trains these days due to the general reduction in comfort and facilities. The risk of gross overcrowding only increases at Easter.
Non GWR options are limited in my case, other than local buses or taxis, and the WSR. Local buses are effectively unusable on "Butlins days" They often start the route full and standing, with no question of boarding en-route. The WSR can also get overcrowded at Easter and is better visited at other times IMHO. Taxis are in short supply and more expensive on public holidays.

Far from the madding crowd?

Londoners planning on a trip to Southsea will not be happy as NR are spending ANOTHER weekend closing all lines between Guildford/Haslemere and Havant.

Isles of Scilly. Possibly ludicrously optimistic but take the opportunity to visit a wonderful environment before it gets overrun later in the year?

Rutland is a lovely choice and often overlooked. I grew up there, but hadn't been back for about 20 years before we visited again last autumn. Since my childhood Oakham has sprouted a bypass, which has made the town centre much more pleasant, and it now has a better range of independent shops (and pubs!) than I remember.

And if you want a bit of rail interest you can take the once-daily (in each direction) train from St Pancras via Harringworth/Welland Viaduct... another change from 20 years ago, when it was used only by freight trains and the occasional weekend diversion.

A second vote for for Rutland. Visited last year. Lovely Lincolnshire Wolds, Rutland Water and places to visit. A hidden gem.

Yes, and nearby Stamford is also a nice town.

..and the pie and cheese shops in Melton Mowbray.

I voted Monmouth as a base for exploring the Welsh/English Marches, a relatively little known but delightful area to explore.
The only other place on the list that I've visited is Winchester but an afternoon there doesn't really qualify me to vote it.... interesting though it was.
My "Somewhere Else" votes are for the Peak District around Buxton and Matlock/Matlock Bath or around Rye on the South Coast....both very successful three day breaks.
Special mention also for Snowdonia, weather allowing. We were based around Bedgellert but Betws-y-Coed was also impressive.
All the above are doable by train (okay, Bedgellert is on the Welsh Highland but its brilliant).
