Title: Thursday 30th November 2023 - GWR Railwayana Auction. Post by: grahame on November 28, 2023, 05:39:52 There are some amazing lots in this auction on Thursday - https://www.leonardauction.com/auction/auction-310/page/1/
Quote Railwayana Auction featuring the collection of Tom E. Jones, including 37 nameplates, 60 cabside numbers, totems, worksplates, destination boards, model trains, maps, signs and more! Largely GWR. Beware - the auction is based in Illinois, estimates are in $$ and I haven't a clue about shipping. Title: Re: Thursday 30th November 2023 - GWR Railwayana Auction. Post by: ChrisB on November 28, 2023, 08:43:32 I think that if these lots came to me & I wanted to sell, I would have shipped them wholesale to the UK first - surely the fact that they are in the USA would depress prices by a lot more than the shipping costs?

My cynical mind is wondering about the provenance of this stuff. And it's genuineness. Looks like a stash that's too good to be true Title: Re: Thursday 30th November 2023 - GWR Railwayana Auction. So it can't be too enormous? $322 shipping for a cabside plate to Florida. Almost all the items have a "provenance" section saying when and where they were obtained, and on that basis I suspect that most are genuine / above board. We don't know how they got to the USA but shipped in bulk (a container of stuff) the per-item rate may have been reasonable. I don't recall Lisa's 40' container being too expensive when we shipped her over to the UK, but then I was more concerned at looking after Lisa than the stuff in the container.
