Title: Frome <-> Taunton - an update Post by: grahame on October 04, 2023, 12:01:40 Taunton is the County Town of Somerset, and Frome is a major town therein. It has always struck me that the public transport link between them is poor, especially as the main London to the West Country railway line passes through Taunton and very close to Frome - passing it on a curve.
I hadn't noticed a timetable change (when?) that brought a single daily direct train from Taunton to Frome (08:23 -> 08:57) but sadly there remains nothing in the opposite direction. The 17:00 from Frome, with a 10 minute change at Castle Cary gets to Taunton at 17:47. Commuting the other way, 08:08 from Frome with a 5 minute change in Westbury gets you to Taunton at 09:01 and there are good connections back every 2 hours (10:06, 12:07, 14:09, 16:05 and 18:18 from Taunton) Title: Re: Frome <-> Taunton - an update Post by: froome on October 04, 2023, 15:31:39 Given the size of Frome, not to mention its hinterland, I've always been amazed at how poorly the town is served by rail services, and particularly its links to both the south-west, via Taunton, and the London direction.
