The pavers and slabs look like they were laid somewhat later than the rails were....as if the area had been spruced up a little in relatively recent years.
South coast?

Ah ha, I thought I had some recollection of rails laid into some of Swanage waterfront....a quick check on Google street view seems to confirm it.

Yes, Swanage. The tracks are the line of the tramway which ran to the pier, now just wooden ruins.
There are odds and ends from London brought is, often as ballast, to the return cargo of purbeck stone.
The Town hall front comes from the Mercer’s Hall, Cheapside; the clock tower is the Wellington Clock Tower relocated from London Bridge. They were brought here by John Mowlem and George Burt, the former founding the Mowlem Construction business.
There are other things to be seen walking around

Dang! Might have got that if I hadn't thought the rails were running along the side of a wall, and I take it you mean the pier the railway ran to is now just wooden ruins as there's still another rather nice Victorian pier. One of my favourite places. A week early to see the T3 running though.

It's been a fair few years since my visit to Swanage but those photos remind me of why I rather liked it there.

The original photo was rotated 90 degrees by my resizing it. Apologies for the confusion. We walked along the pier while there.
It is an interesting town. Next time we will probably call in to Durlston Country Park with its Globe and more London artefacts.
