Obviously they had no permission to be on the track but on the other hand, morally, you can’t just stand by and watch someone end their life.

Hopefully being looked after by his employer & rail mates. But almost certainly now feeling several times worse at knowing who he killed, rather than keeping them anonymous unless the driver seeks them out. More thought I feel, gentlemen of plod! The support network for drivers is very good, both from the company and its appointed care system. But also from driving colleagues, many of whom will no doubt have had their own fatalities. I don’t know the exact figure but it must be somewhere around a once in ten year event for each qualified driver to have a fatality. He was a Sergeant, not a PC, and I suspect that the focus is on him because he gave his life in an act of selfless courage, saving another life. I hope that the driver of the train and the family of Sergeant Saville receive all the support they need.
