Title: Bathford Road bridge: masonry fallen into the road
Post by: Mark A on August 19, 2023, 18:04:41
A twitter post with a couple of photos. Buses aren't going under, trains aren't going over.

Middle Hill Bridge.  Just the Bath side of the more famous Box Tunnel.

Ah, the bus information (and the traffic congestion and photos) indicate that this is the rail bridge over the A363 by Bathford.

You could well be right.  There seems to be conflicting information on the location.

There was conflicting information on the trains as well. I was on a train coming back from Didcot Parkway, and at Swindon there was an announcement that due to this problem, the train would now be diverted by Bristol Parkway to go directly to Temple Meads, with those travelling to Bath being told to stay on and change at Temple Meads, and those going to Chippenham being told to get off and await announcements about alternative travel arrangements. The train then sat at the platform for about another 10-15 minutes, and then moved off... but to Chippenham and Bath Spa. En route there was a rather embarrassed sounding announcement apologising for the conflicting information. I hope those going to Chippenham did get told to get back on!

I have to wonder why that reversal facility they put in at Bradford Junction during the "electrification" between Chippenham and Bath is so rarely used.
