Title: Transport Planning Society
Post by: grahame on July 02, 2023, 07:42:50
"On this day" for 2nd July has come up with - in 1997 - "Inaugural meeting of Transport Planning Society".  Not an organisation that has previously made it onto my radar.  Reading their history ... https://tps.org.uk/The-Society/our_history

Quote
The seed of TPS was planted in June 1994 at a seminar in London, attended by 70 transport planners, which agreed that the sector urgently needed a professional framework.

This led to the creation of the Transport Planning Forum, which included local government representatives, academics, consultants and others. Its objectives were to identify the needs of the profession and investigate the extent to which these needs were being met by existing institutes and organisations.

The Transport Planning Forum met again in 1995 and 1996 to allow practitioners to contribute to the debate.  In accordance with the wishes of the overwhelming majority of those present at the meeting in 1996, the Transport Planning Society was formed in February 1997.

The inaugural meeting of TPS was held in London on 2 July 1997. Over 200 delegates attended the meeting and a committee structure was endorsed.

We now have over 1,600 individual members and more than 38 Stakeholder and Business Directory Members and continue to grow........

In 2008 it became a Company Limited by Guarantee.  The Society and its members are governed by articles of association.

As a member of the public, the society's website seems strong on words but not so strong on current content, but I do wonder if that's because it's an industry organisation for professionals which I am not.  Any yet I would have expected to at least find a date for Transport Planning Day 2023.  Can any Coffee Shop members comment / tell us more of the organisation?   Do we have any members here?

Yes ... thanks ... I seem to have been blind and clicked on links such as
https://tps.org.uk/transport-planning-day-and-campaign
which is generic and
https://tps.org.uk/transport-planning-day-and-campaign/transport-planning-day-2023/sponsorship-opportunities-2023
which does have the date buried in the text.

I overlooked your https://tps.org.uk/transport-planning-day-and-campaign/transport-planning-day-2023 link as I took it to be a heading for a pulldown set of links and not a link in its own right.
