Strong "Flockton Flyer" vibe with this

A vibe strengthened by the appearance of John Moulder-Brown as Charly.  He was in the 1970s Southern TV railway adventure, in one episode, as Christopher Bell.  I don't think he mentioned his previous railway experience when he was on location with us in Somerset

I quite enjoyed it, though no doubt Jobsworths would have winced at a child being allowed to drive a locomotive, as in the opening scene.

Nah, but back in the early 70's my parents were friends with someone who must have been fairly high up in the rankings for our local BR workshop & freight yard.

When my father died, mother had a difficult time and the friend became a part time baby sitter which meant on the odd Saturday morning my brother and I were taken to the workshop and shunting yard where, under supervision, we were allowed to start up various locos, move them around  and do some shunting.

Probably wouldn't happen these days.... Probably??  Who am I kidding...
