Title: Chippenham Station Footbridge
Post by: bobm on May 10, 2023, 18:41:33
For the last few months works have been going on to provide a third lift on the northside of Chippenham Station.

During that time the right of way, via the stairs, has been closed to allow the project to go ahead.

I have just heard from GWR that the footway will re-open tomorrow (Thursday).    The lift still needs final safety checks and there is no news of an opening date for that yet.

One of my harder assignments today - photographing the official opening of a lift - made all the more difficult because they wanted me in the photo of the ceremony.

However local MP Michelle Donelan was on hand today to mark the completion of the work to provide a lift from the north side of Chippenham Station to link with the existing footbridge which spans the platform and the south side of the station where the buses depart from.

Not sure why they've put disabled bays that side of the station - surely they'd be more useful on the ticket office side?

I don’t know them by sight and they weren’t named on the list of attendees.

There are disabled bays on the other side of the station too.  Now the lift is in place they’ll provide extra capacity.
