Title: [otd] 16.04 - Arrival of Tulyar at the Swanley Barn Railway Post by: grahame on April 16, 2023, 11:23:58 It has amazed me that the most powerful locomotives of my youth - the class 55 Deltic - seems to have (or have had) a long and useful retirement history in running specials and even freight trains in may part of the UK. Came to my mind again today when "On this day" flagged up the arrival - admittedly a model - at the Swanley New Barn Railway (https://steamdriver.wixsite.com/snbr/about-us)

I've only once experienced a Deltic. Severn Valley Railway a few years ago. Even limited to 25mph it was still a thrill to ride behind 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier. One day - the highlight of the week for the 13 year old me - we went to York via Retford. Our train from Retford to York was hauled by D9003 'Meld'. To say I was excited would be an understatement!
