At first I thought Bristol, then I saw the sign for the ferry to the Scillies and I don't think that ship gets as far as the Avon.

Yes, the arch is very reminiscent of the Old Station at Temple Meads. Except it doesn’t have moss and ferns growing out of it! Title: Re: Some places to visit again in 2023? Title: Re: Some places to visit again in 2023? Post by: eightonedee on March 07, 2023, 13:33:53 Quote Quote from: eightonedee on Today at 09:18:37 am Is 4 Falmouth? ....but which one? I did think about a sarcastic "the one in Cornwall" response, but if we are looking at the nearest station it must be "Docks" not "Town" - as it looks like the flats around there. Title: Re: Some places to visit again in 2023? Post by: grahame on March 07, 2023, 21:41:11 Six down all correct, four to go. Yes, Falmouth Cornwall and not Falmouth Massachusetts which (I presume) is where the Williams and Smiths from Cornwall landed as they sailed west. Yes, those are the most common Cornish surnames (https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/cornwalls-50-most-common-surnames-5189890)

Title: Re: Some places to visit again in 2023? Post by: Red Squirrel on March 08, 2023, 09:57:15 I think I was with grahame when he took No.0. Does that mean I can't answer that one?

Does that mean I can't answer that one? 24 hours is up, so it's open house. I think you were almost with me but not quite - just behind the wall pressing the "flesh" of a TVM? No. 8, sorry, is not Limerick Junction Title: Re: Some places to visit again in 2023? Post by: stuving on March 08, 2023, 12:38:18 8. Wexford O Hanrahan.

Title: Re: Some places to visit again in 2023? Post by: grahame on March 09, 2023, 08:03:57 Then there was one. I would have guessed that was going to be the most difficult on the quiz (but then I'm often surprised by how quickly the hard ones go).

I would have guessed that was going to be the most difficult on the quiz (but then I'm often surprised by how quickly the hard ones go). Lison! I was getting annoyed by that one, since there is enough evidence it was on the way to Cherbourg. I just "rechecked" Lison, being sure I'd already done it as the most obvious place to change on a direct cross-country route from Perpignan (in the sense of avoiding Paris). I must have assumed that you would not have doubled back via Caen - but then again, why wouldn't you? Title: Re: Some places to visit again in 2023? I must have assumed that you would not have doubled back via Caen - but then again, why wouldn't you? You are correct - Lison. And I did not double back - I travelled Paris to Caen in the evening, early train to Lison the next morning that was headed - I think - onto that cross-country route and dropped back onto the Cherbourg train.
