Title: DMU seating capacities
Post by: TJ on May 12, 2008, 00:02:58
I am trying to compile an accurate list of the seating capacities of FGWs 15x fleet of DMUs. Whilst information is available in publications that I possess I am uncertain of the effects the current refurbishments are having on capacities.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Well, TJ, my information is probably rather out of date now, but for what it's worth:

150 = 147 seats;

153 = 75 seats;

158 = 138 two car, 206 three car.

However, I'm sure some of our members can give us both much more up to date information!  ;D

It depends what figures xmth's going by, the ex Wessex 150's have the least seating capacity of any 150's as they have 2+2 seating. 153's have 75 seats, 3 of which are fold up seats that cant be used when a wheelchair is where it should be.

One thing ex wessex 150s are good at is providing acres of room to standing in!!!!!!!!!!

Half the 153's have lost their tip up seats in the refurb, don't know why.

The tip up seats on 153's should be removed, the train could be empty but people will still sit on the tip up seats and then you've got nowhere to put luggage and prams etc.

Thanks to everyone for their replies, much appreciated.

As regards tip up seats I will show these as separate figures where appropriate.

What has happened to the old 1st class area on any ex TPE 158 that has been refurbished?

Because they have only put back the tip up seats that were complete and usable, so many units are without them as its obviously beyond the bugget to buy new ones!!

It's been swept away. Finally went on my first refurbed 158 on Sunday - very impressed. Much more so than I expected to be.
