365 days in 2021….so more than 2 trips a day on average *every* day. I find that hard to believe. Are they including car trips as well? I find that hard to believe. Are they including car trips as well? Yes, and walking and cycling trips too. 31% of trips were walking and their total distance was short - I wonder how short some were - walking the bin to the end of the road? Title: Re: National Travel Survey for 2021 Post by: stuving on September 22, 2022, 16:13:49 Here's some more stats from DfT - an update today to the passenger numbers and crowding datasets. (https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/rai02-capacity-and-overcrowding#passenger-numbers-by-city-and-central-london-station) This is basically about commuting, and the latest data are for Autumn 2021, so it's still showing Covid effects rather than after-effects.
This little excerpt is the most striking, showing how the number seats provided into Paddington has risen with longer trains, but not matched passenger numbers. Then with Crossrail there was a huge boost in the number of standing places, while (to 2021) the number of passengers had halved! services seats capacity max load PiCX 2011 1 hour peak 25 8,842 9,914 11,254 1,671 15% 3 hour peak 66 21,881 24,672 24,352 2,606 11% 2018 1 hour peak 24 11,320 14,268 14,748 2,002 14% 3 hour peak 66 29,494 38,506 33,362 3,101 9% 2021 1 hour peak 24 11,034 22,940 6,638 0 0% 3 hour peak 64 30,001 64,849 15,874 0 0% I do hope they can produce this autumn's figures a big quicker than that, though in past years it was still not ready until July!
