Title: If your ticket ceases to operate the gates...
Post by: Mookiemoo on May 06, 2008, 22:54:46
Can you get it replaced?

Mine no longer does the gates - has another three weeks

No idea what happened to it

WOS ticket office say they ant do anything other than issue a duplicate (which because I lost one ticket and had my purse stolen I am not eligible for)

Surely there is some way of getting a defective ticket re-issued?

I am sick of trying to defend why I have a dodgy ticket twice a day!

If a ticket fails to operate barriers, you should be eligible for a free reissue which doesn't count against or towards or limit.

I KNOW that

but I cant convince WOS office staff of the same!

Is there any regulation I can quote at them?

Have you tried asking at Paddington / Reading? Staff at the larger stations with barriers might have come across this more often and thus know how to deal with it. Or phone FGW customer services. I would suggest either of those before "quoting regulations at them".

Hi, Mookiemoo!

Is this, by any chance, the same ticket that has featured in a previous discussion here?

As mentioned earlier, Replacements due to encoding issues are simple enough and should be done by Worcester for you, but Reading or Paddington will deal with it as earlier mentioned :)

No idea what happened to it

Any chance you keep it close to/with your mobile phone?  My staff pass stopped working in the gates for this reason.

Probably static messing up the strip.

Definately.

Shazz, do you work for FGW at all?

Fair enough, then!  :D

I buy my daily ticket either at Nailsea (if the machine's working!) or on the train - but often it doesn't work in the exit barriers at BTM, ten minutes later!   ::)

Tickets that you buy on the train. ... not surprising it doesn't work in the barriers..... they rarely do ;)

Thanks again, Tom!

So the point of installing hugely expensive barriers, which cannot cope with a mint condition ticket, printed ten minutes ago, is ... ermm, what, exactly ??

C.  ::)

The magnetism provided by Avantix machines is not on par with those issued by ticket machines in ticket offices and TVMs and hence the magnetism wipes out quicker - for instance, get an Avantix ticket from a guard for a London all zones travelcard. Do not put it anywhere near a mobile phone or credit card or anything that could possibly remove the magnetism... then go around trying barriers on the Tube - should wipe out within about 4 valid reads... whereas a TVM should last the day.

Interesting.

I tend to put my newly purchased ticket in the breast pocket of my shirt, for convenience - well away from my mobile phone, credit card, etc.

Clearly, it is purely my personal magnetism that renders it unreadable by the time I reach the barriers at Bristol Temple Meads!

 ;) :D ;D

I think someone may have swiped my personal magnetism  ;D

Isn't this a justification for FGW (or whoever) to use a different supplier as the existing product isn't "fit for purpose "?

Pretty much all operators use Avantix Mobile for their on train ticketing as there really is no practical option otherwise.
