If the railways were better run, there would still be high demand for air travel, but higher usage of trains to get to the airport. The average person does not go to Spain or Greece by train. It should not be surprising the airports and airlines are struggling more than they did pre-pandemic, airlines and airports and their contractors made staff redundant, other staff that were furloughed have not returned to the industry. It has been difficult for the industry to recruit with confidence until recently, quite a few of the key jobs take time to recruit due to the security checks and then there is the training. Not sure how many are scheduled to run, but that must be a fairly hefty percentage?
