Title: The End of Steam on the Talyllyn (April Fool, Locked) Post by: Red Squirrel on April 01, 2022, 10:40:34 Sadly, the Talyllyn Railway - the world's first preserved railway - has made the decision to end stream traction and move over to a new hybrid system involving battery-electric locomotives and third rail supply. I wonder how many other heritage railways will follow suit?

Indeed - yet many a true work spoken in jest. Not the Talyllyn, I'm sure - but there is a case for a third rail heritage operation, and as generations move on and steam moves from the memories of many to the history books, people wanting to see railways "as they were when I was young" will look to diesel and early electric.
