What about Afghans, Somalis, Iranians, Syrians, Iraqis who are seeking refuge?

Let's hope it spreads to other nationalities as well as TOCs - what a kind gesture that would be, and how well it would reflect on the railways.

Apart from Transport for Wales, is there anything to add to this list from the UK?

Answering my own question:

From National Rail https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ukr-travel.aspx

To help Ukrainian nationals travelling to the United Kingdom, most public transport operators, including National Rail, are offering free onward travel to get you to a safe place.  The offer is valid across all National Rail train operators, light rail services and the majority of bus and coach services in England, Scotland, and Wales, and you will have 48 hours from arrival in the UK to complete your journey.
You will also be able to travel free across London using London Underground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and London bus and tram services so you can reach your destination as quickly as possible.

To make use of this scheme, you will need to show your Ukrainian passport and a boarding pass or ticket showing your arrival into the UK.

..............so Ukrainians seeking refuge get a free pass (and good luck to them), whilst Afghans, Somalis, Iranians, Syrians, Iraqis etc have to pay full fare.

Interesting message which that sends out, which somewhat echoes the attitude expressed by some (well, one!) elsewhere on this forum about the relative levels of sympathy attached to their predicament.

Welcome hubs are being set up at airports, ports and train stations across England to welcome Ukrainian refugees, the government has announced, as pressure mounts on ministers to dramatically overhaul the system by which they can apply for sanctuary in the UK.

Nearly £2m is to be spent on 31 hubs across 27 local authorities, the Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities said. Hubs are already up and running at airports including at Luton, Gatwick, Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester, and at St Pancras International train station in London.

The centres will provide food, clothing and sanitary products to arrivals, act as a space for matched families to meet one another and help Ukrainians travel onward to their accommodation. Emergency £200 cash grants will also be available for those who need them.

I am keeping political comment and issues wider than travel to the "And Also" area of the web site, please. Regular members are very welcome to contribute there - http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?board=45.0 ... travel and transport here (by all means), but let's keep the off topic stuff in one place.

And in that spirit, I have followed up this post
