Title: Re: Advent quiz - day 21 - Can you identify the geography? Post by: grahame on December 22, 2021, 09:38:38 All looking good so far, expect for "D" not being Filton Abbey Wood - which was suggested before the pattern in the maps was noted. I will come back and follow up quiz answers here and on other days later today if I can - some significant none-rail "stuff" going on which is far, far more serious than "lighter side" and I ask you to forgive my tardiness in confirming.
Big "thank you" to everyone who's helped with Advent quizzes already ... that set offered in now exhausted, but if anyone would like to take on tomorrow / 23rd that would be much appreciated. Title: Re: Advent quiz - day 21 - Can you identify the geography? Post by: stuving on December 22, 2021, 10:34:59 D - Digby and Sowton. Less urban than I'd thought - what I took for slab-like flats is the old Digby Hostipal.

I did wonder if the last four names ending in "ton" was significant in some way. But more likely it's just nature's way of reminding us that an emergent pattern is not necessarily a real property. It may be just the data having a bit of noisy fun - data will be data, after all. Title: Re: Advent quiz - day 21 - Can you identify the geography? I hadn't noticed / set up "ton" intentionally. The first letter was intentional, as was north being up, left, down and right in turn. Yes, "J" was a very limited choice unless I had gone for "Junction de Clapham" of "Junction de Dovey" Title: Re: Advent quiz - day 21 - Can you identify the geography? I hadn't noticed / set up "ton" intentionally. The first letter was intentional, as was north being up, left, down and right in turn. Yes, "J" was a very limited choice unless I had gone for "Junction de Clapham" of "Junction de Dovey" And I hadn't noticed the ordering of orientation. But then that does not help much with the finding/matching process, it's enough to know that maps may be rotated to one of four orientations. What was more relevant was the geographical scope - which appears to be "Western" (no Highland halts this time), but without being too picky about a single date.
