Well worth a watch if you're a child of the 1980s. And doubly so if you're a train nerd like me. The British Rail carriage interiors through the ages are stars in themselves. Not 100% accurate, but good enough to mark each decade. An original Mk3 buffet makes an appearance, replete with period food and drinks. The time travelling story is an interesting one. A sort of mash up of Dickens' A Christmas Carol and the film It's A Wonderful Life. Michael Sheen is brilliant, effortlessly portraying parts of the life of the main character that could of been, based on different life decisions. Hair, makeup and wardrobe are fantastic. There's a Smashy and Nicely radio DJ style. A look that instantly reminds you, worryingly, of Gary Glitter. And more than a nod and a wink to Peter Stringfellow. Perfect 1980s British Rail Steward's uniform too. Nice cameo from John Thompson as a trainspotter. Another excellent touch is the different picture quality and aspect ratios used for the different decades of the story. From 1940s British cinema black and white, to 1980s 4:3 video. Well worth a watch. Although I should point out its not a family feel good Christmas film. A little too dark for the kids.
