Cross Country have let the contract for the refurbishment of their HST stock, it has been awarded to Wabtec Rail. Title: Re: Contract Let for Refurbishment of Cross Country HST's Post by: miniman on April 23, 2008, 16:36:53 Let's hope they don't make the interiors as miserable and cramped as FGW...

Different comoany did our HST's.I think Wabtec did our 158's which are very good. Title: Re: Contract Let for Refurbishment of Cross Country HST's Post by: swlines on April 23, 2008, 18:03:56 Uh oh, ... ;)
In all seriousness we could end up with a Mallard style refurbishment for the HSTs that XC are using... Title: Re: Contract Let for Refurbishment of Cross Country HST's Post by: Btline on April 23, 2008, 18:15:59 What's wrong with Mallard (PS: I don't know what they are like, but assume they are good)? ???
And we are bound to get high seat backs - health and safety. ;) Airline seats? XC will coast past their franchise requirement and more (i.e. securing an extension). And apparently (according to the "Money" post) people prefer airline seats which are not alighted to the windows. >:( Title: Re: Contract Let for Refurbishment of Cross Country HST's Post by: swlines on April 23, 2008, 18:35:38 I know, it's a shame really that it has come to this.
A Mallard refurbishment is the refurbishment that National Express East Coast have made to their class 91 and Mk4, as well as HST fleets. Title: Re: Contract Let for Refurbishment of Cross Country HST's Post by: swlines on April 23, 2008, 18:55:27 In a few words - better than FGWs attempt.
In a word - yes. Title: Re: Contract Let for Refurbishment of Cross Country HST's Post by: John R on April 23, 2008, 18:57:07 I know, it's a shame really that it has come to this. A Mallard refurbishment is the refurbishment that National Express East Coast have made to their class 91 and Mk4, as well as HST fleets. Actually GNER made the Mallard refurbishment to its Mk 4 fleet and started the HSTs. Not sure NatEx would have invested quite so much. Title: Re: Contract Let for Refurbishment of Cross Country HST's Post by: swlines on April 23, 2008, 19:00:11 I'm aware of that - GNER are no longer in existance though! NXEC are the current EC franchise holder so I consider them to be the appropriate TOC to talk about. ;)
