It does seem an awfully complicated and expensive way of doing it. I wonder if the driver was to avoid more than a day or two of main line closure, in which case that mischievous virus has pretty much rendered that pointless. I thought I remembered that as a rather different story - but (as usual) I'd just forgotten. It was in this earlier thread (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=14026.0). That doesn't really pin down who got what wrong, but it will provide a good test of how successful Graham's been on tonight's SWAT-team raid to evict the evil antidiacrtitical fairies that have been squatting in the new forum software since it started. I misread stuving's post at first glance, and thought that grahame was defumigating the place. It does seem an awfully complicated and expensive way of doing it. I wonder if the driver was to avoid more than a day or two of main line closure, in which case that mischievous virus has pretty much rendered that pointless. Maybe though, a track diversion with resulting speed restrictions over a long period is enough to wreck the entire timetable... On another point though, I think the fully engineered launch way, and the twin pilot tunnels through the embankment, containing guide rails, made it a significantly different process to the bridge failure at Gipsy Patch Lane.
