Great Western Coffee Shop

This quiz is a bit of nostalgia run for me. Hopefully you will also have been to some of the sites and recognise them.

Each group (same letter) are in the same town. We?re looking for the country/town and if possible the railway attraction. All are over 20 years old, when I converted to electronic cameras so at least one I know of has changed.

If it helps, d is not New Orleans and g1/g2 are two different features in the same town.

Nest week all will be in the British Isles.

Fascinating pictures, Reginald25 ... initial post updated to move them into the main post.   Looks like you are well travelled!

Sadly Taunton is somewhere I haven't been to (apart from the obvious one)!
To everyone, best to use the letters a through h to identify.

19 Sydney, Australia g1 at Darling Harbour monorail station and g2 on the Harbour bridge ??

Since 'h' contains a clue the size of a mountain with a big statue on it (and I don't recognise any of the others), it can only be Rio de Janiero and the Corcovado mountain railway. 

6 looks like R2D2 has let himself go a bit.

b1 - b5 are all from Station Square Pittsburgh.

b1-b5 Yes, Pittsburgh, with the funicular and I think they were building a metro system down near the river. the R2D2 image was to help identify the location, a steel town.

h Yes, Rio, the rack railway was at the bottom station. On that day it was so misty that when we got to the top, you cvouldn't see the top of the statue from the ground level.

g1 and g2 Yes, Sydney and the monorail (sadly no longer) and the Harbour Bridge

17 f Jo'burg (Johannesburg) ?

Right country which has several railway/transport museums. However this one, is not the main musuem in Joburg, but not far off in the same state.

That's me out then!
Only connection with South Africa was flying into Jo'burg, then transferring flights to join our ship in Durban.

No apologies to member broadgage for flying (that was in the early 70's mind), but at that time we were transporting Gulf crude oil to the UK for refining; hopefully that will remit my sins)  ;)

Well done, just leaves a, c , d and f.

A is perhaps the opposite of a previous clue. The large building is the clue to this location.
C was taken in 1984. At the time Larry Gatlin had a song with the city name, which is close to a location well known for much faster transport than trains.
D was taken in December 1983, and on that day Santa arrived by train on the railroad line shown. It may not be New Orleans, but the Mississippi goes through other cities.
F is actually close to Durban.

Close - it is Galveston RailRoad Museum

I guess the others are too obscure, so

D Baton Rouge and around, Christmas 1983

F Hilton Railway Musuem near Pietermartizburg
G Sydney - monorail (since removed) and Harbour bridge
H Lower station on rack railway to the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer
